State Highways
Local name: Highway 4

Florida 4 enters Escambia County from the east on the recently re-constructed Escambia River Bridge. This bridge was rebuilt in the early 1990's to replace a much older span that was located just to the north of the current span. The new span is 2 lanes and includes emergency shoulders. The old span was construced in the 1940's and had outlived it's functionality. It was demolished after the new span opened.

Florida 4 ends less then 2 miles after entering Escambia County. The terminus is US 29 (FL 95). The route once followed US 29 (FL95) south to the current routing of Escambia CR 4, where it used to terminate at FL 97 in Davisville. This segment was downgraded to CR 4 in the early 1980's (when many Escambia County routes came into existence from former FL routes).

Local name: Atmore Highway

FL 97 is a primarily diagonal north-south route somewhat paralleling US 29 (FL 95) in northern Escambia County. The route enters Escambia County from the north at the Alabama state line just south of Atmore. From there it travels south-southeast through rural areas to a junction with US 29 (FL 95) at Molino. The route should truly end there, but crosses US 29 (FL 95) and ends .5 miles to the east at CR 95A.

FL 97 is an important route because it is one of only two routes connecting Pensacola with I-65 in Alabama. FL 97 is two lanes for it's entire length. The road was recently (1998) resurfaced from US 29 (FL 95) to CR 4 in Davisville.
